My favorite from the Donna-free month of Dec '73.

Best versions I know of Here Comes Sunshine and China->Rider, and a 43-minute Dark Star. Did I mention no Donna? The boys were not missing her.

S&R

Listening to this one right now--AMAZING! and yes, w/no Donna you can really appreciate listening to the vocal harmonic sections in HCS (my favorite track so far...one of the truly great jazz jams Garcia has ever led), Greatest Story, BIODTL, etc.

Great recommendation, and wonderfully clean Miller source...why had I not heard of this one before?

Wouldn't the 43-minute Dark Star scare you away, grendel? You're always saying this is your least favorite kind of Dead jam....

Well, I can't throw out the baby with the bathwater...what I do with most of those '73-'74 DS's (and did so w/this one) is listen to about the first 20-25 minutes, or until Jerry sings the 2nd verse (sometimes, granted, there isn't one), then move on as they get to the stupid feedback/nonsense sections, and go on thru the show...

Good example is 11/11/73...FANTASTIC Dark Star up until the 2nd verse, then it degrades into junk...

anyway, overall this 12/6/73 show is too good to let one tune ruin it. You gotta listen to that HCS....instantly my favorite--and again--No Donna to ruin the choruses!!!!

That HCS from 12/6 is absolutely the sexiest thing in that show and maybe the entire year. I also appreciate the long Dark Star just for the audacity of it. China -> Rider is also huge at this show. Very, very good versions of some others, including GSET, TLEO and Eyes. Just a great all-around evening of GD from Donna-free 73.
